Blueberries

Blueberries are part of the Cyanococcus family scientifically known as Vaccinium angustifolium.  Blueberries are perennial flowering plants with blue or purple colored berries. Blueberries have a pleasant, sweet taste. They’re often eaten fresh but may also be frozen or juiced. They can be used in a variety of baked goods, jams, and jellies, as well as for flavorings.

 

 

Broccoli

Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable known scientifically as Brassica oleracea. Broccoli is an excellent vegetable of choice and can be enjoyed raw or cooked and recent research shows that gentle steaming provides the best source of nutrition. This product is high in vitamin C and K, Iron and Potassium. Our Broccoli can be purchased iced or iceless.

 

Celery

Celery is part of the Apiaceae family known scientifically as Apium graveolens. Celery has a long fibrous stock that tapers into leaves. This product is an excellent source of antioxidants and is high in dietary fiber. Celery is increasing in popularity due to its greens and is being used fresh and processed in juice. This vegetable has been used in culinary and studied in medicine for centuries. The stock and leaves of celery can be used in a variety of cooking methods and is a wonderful item to add fiber to your dish. Our celery can be purchased sleeved or sleeveless.

 

Cauliflower

Cauliflower is a cruciferous vegetable known scientifically as Brassica oleracea var. botrytis. Cauliflower heads are composed of white inflorescence meristem. This vegetable is naturally high in vitamins and fiber and is a good addition to any diet. Cooking with this product has increased as it can be used in multiple ways as pizza crust, mashed cauliflower, grilled, in soups and fresh on a vegetable tray.

 

Green Beans

Green Beans are part of the legume family Fabaceae and known scientifically as Phaseolus vulgaris. Legumes are nitrogen fixing plants, and green beans when grown can fix some nitrogen back in the soil. This vegetable can be grown in both bush form and vine form.  Bushes can reach up to 20 inches and vines can reach up to 10 feet long. Green beans are very universal and can be consumed canned, frozen, and fresh and can be steamed, stir-fried, or baked. One very popular dish prepared in the USA during the Thanksgiving holiday is green bean casserole.

 

Chili Peppers

Chili Peppers are part of the Solanaceae family known scientifically as Capsicum annuum. Chili peppers carry a compound Capsaicin which has many benefits such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This capsaicin is what gives chili peppers the strong, spicy pungency which makes them a delicious ingredient to any dish. Chili peppers are consumed fresh, processing and pickled and prepared in a variety of ways. Summer Squash

Summer Squash is a member of the Cucurbitaceae family known scientifically as Cucurbita pepo. Summer squash is available in several different varieties and each variety has a unique shape, color, size and flavor. The entire squash is edible including the flesh, skin and seeds. This is a very versatile vegetable that can be grilled, sautéed, steamed, or used in a stir-fry. Steaming summer squash is the best way to retain all the nutrients. Tomatillo

Tomatillos are part of the Solanaceae family known scientifically as Physalis philadelphica. This plant has its roots in Mexico where the Aztecs cultivated them as early as 800 BC. Tomatillos are sometimes called husk tomatoes because they look like green, unripe tomatoes with a dry, leafy husk that wraps around the outside. This vegetable is a staple in Mexican cuisine but now becoming increasingly popular in the USA. Tomatillos are most commonly used in salsas, soups.

 

Strawberries

Strawberries are part of the Rosaceae family known scientifically as Fragaria ananassa. The fruit is widely appreciated for its characteristic aroma, bright red color, juicy texture, and sweetness. The seeds can grow to make new plants, but most strawberry plants instead reproduce by runners. There are 200 seeds in an average strawberry. Strawberries are the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside. This fruit is very nutritious, high in vitamin C and can be served fresh or frozen and is known as a superfruit.
